TopCosmetics

E-commerce mobile app

Role: Senior Product Designer · Platform: iOS / Android · Year: 2023–2025

About

TopCosmetics is a mobile e-commerce platform built for a professional audience in the beauty and medical industry.
The app focuses on the distribution of specialized cosmetics and medical-grade products that require professional knowledge and certification. Access is granted exclusively to verified specialists, ensuring a controlled and trusted environment for both brands and buyers.
The platform supports B2B purchasing workflows, streamlined product discovery, and repeat ordering directly from mobile.

The Challenge

Designing TopCosmetics meant building a professional e-commerce ecosystem tailored to certified specialists while maintaining strict access control and trust within the platform. Only verified professionals could enter the system, which required a seamless but secure onboarding and authorization flow.

The product was designed for long-term retention. The core audience is cosmetologists and medical professionals, who need to return regularly for repeat purchases, restocking, and discovering new professional lines. Creating a frictionless reordering experience and intuitive product navigation became a key priority.

Operational complexity added another layer of challenge. The company operates multiple warehouses with different delivery methods, and product availability varies depending on stock location. The interface had to clearly communicate availability, logistics options, and delivery expectations without overwhelming the user.

At the same time, the product was evolving continuously. The business regularly identified new growth opportunities, introduced process changes, and expanded functionality. As a designer, I frequently revisited existing flows, refined features, and integrated new ones into an already active system, where I balanced scalability, clarity, and consistency across the app.

Role & Responsibilities

I was responsible for leading the UX design and iterative redesign of the application based on the existing UI system.
My role included expanding functionality, identifying usability gaps, and improving core user journeys across the platform. I worked closely with the customer to propose product-level solutions to operational and user experience challenges, translating business needs into scalable design decisions.
This involved refining purchasing flows, optimizing repeat-order scenarios, improving navigation and product discovery, and continuously auditing the experience to uncover friction points.
As the product evolved, I regularly revisited implemented features, adjusted logic, and integrated new functionality while maintaining design consistency across the system.

Design Process & Approach

I started by reviewing operational logic, warehouse distribution, delivery flows, stock limitations, and verification requirements. This allowed me to map system constraints before shaping user flows.
The core audience consisted of certified professionals who make regular purchases. I focused on repeat-order scenarios, time efficiency, and clarity in product selection. Key journeys were mapped around:
– onboarding & verification
– product discovery
– repeat purchasing
– checkout & delivery selection
New functionality was introduced in phases. Each addition required revisiting existing flows to maintain system coherence. I worked on scalable UX patterns to ensure future flexibility without increasing complexity.
As business needs shifted, I refined flows, simplified interactions, and adjusted the information hierarchy. The focus remained on long-term retention and professional usability rather than short-term visual updates.

Handoff & Development Support

One of the main challenges during implementation was aligning the new UX solutions with technical constraints. Every design decision had to consider development capacity, database structure, warehouse logic, and existing backend limitations.

I maintained continuous communication with the development team, balancing user needs with technical feasibility. Many solutions were shaped collaboratively, ensuring that the final implementation remained scalable and realistic within the current architecture.

Due to the size and complexity of the design system, the handoff process required structured coordination. The product included a large number of screens and interconnected flows, and updates were often delivered in parts. I regularly prepared focused handoff packages, presented changes to the team, clarified logic, and documented functionality to support accurate implementation.

This process required constant synchronization, iterative refinements, and close cross-functional collaboration to keep the product consistent while evolving.

Outcome

The project required balancing business complexity, operational constraints, and professional user expectations within a single mobile experience.
One of the key improvements was the optimization of the checkout flow. By simplifying delivery selection, clarifying warehouse-based availability, and reducing unnecessary steps, the purchasing process became faster and more transparent.
As a result, the optimized checkout flow reduced cart abandonment by 30% for the TopCosmetics platform.
Beyond conversion improvements, the product evolved into a more scalable system, better aligned with backend logic, adaptable to new feature additions, and more intuitive for certified professionals who rely on the app for regular purchasing.
